Update from Fred’s wife, Carolyn, on Tue, Feb 14, 2012 at 9:43 AM,

“We met with Dr. Geller at the new Cancer Center in Jasper this morning. He reaffirmed what the surgeon told us last Thursday. The mass that was removed (surrounding kidney) was an aggressive form of cancer. While there was no evidence that it had spread (except to the adrenaline gland on top of the kidney), there is a strong likelihood that will happen down the line. Renal cell carcinoma can not be treated with chemo and there is no cure at present. Trials are being conducted with autoimmune drugs used for things like lupus, etc. Dr. Geller has connections at Harvard medical school,et.al., and will be investigating possibilities of clinical studies that Fred might be a candidate for since he is healthy otherwise (no diabetes, heart disease, etc.). The good news is that Fred has no pain anywhere, is not napping as much as he was before surgery, and his appetite has picked up. He has continued to lose weight, and Dr. Geller gave him another iron infusion this morning. He’ll go back for a second infusion next Monday. Keep him on your prayer list…

Please pray for Hans Rueffert

I received a phone call from Hans Rueffert last night. I do not know if you are aware but Hans is still physically challenged and is on disability and is not supposed to be working per doctor’s orders. However, he lost his chef at the Woodbridge and has had to fill the gap. And yes the Woodbridge is for sale and he has a potential buyer. Until then he needs to keep the business running and profitable. What has happened is apparently some well-meaning person has published in a newsletter in Big Canoe that the Woodbridge Inn has closed. Hans believes this has affected the business and he requested I try to get the word out that the Woodbridge is not closed. All of this to say that based on what he has shared with me at a detailed level is that it is literally killing him to continue running the business. He cannot just shut the business down because that could sour a potential sale. It is affecting his health and the side effects of the stress is starting to impact his fragile health situation. So there are several requests here…1. For Han’s health and strength to improve so he can make it through the sale of the Inn…2. for the Woodbridge business for people to continue to support and not listen to rumor… for the successful sale of the business so that Hans can be relieved of his burden and return to where he belongs –on disability

Guys

This is my brother-in-law. Donna lost her first husband to lukemia and has been very appily married to Ed for several years and now this.Its been a few days since we received Ed’s diagnosis from his Radiologist Oncologist. He has been dealt a bad hand as the Radiologist said. Mastatic Lung Cancer…….stage 4.
He will under go radiation in the next 10 days for 14 treatments and then Chemo. He has a tough battle ahead of him. They have said there is no cure but but but…maybe…he will fair well with the treatments an keep him strong for a long time.
Right now he is feeling great and no symptoms and can’t believe this is invading him. His surgery has healed very well and he is off today to visit his brother in Hamilton.
Sorry about the doom and gloom news on such a beautiful day, the sunshine is so uplifting today.

FYI……Ron had knee replacement surgery this morning at Piedmont Mountainside. Surgery went as expected. Current plans/expectations are that Ron will be released to go home on Friday.

My friend, John, with the tumor on his tongue, had SUCCESSFUL surgery last week. The doctors say that the excision edges looked clear and they are all hopeful that no followup treatment will be needed. Praise God, and THANKS to all of you for your prayers for John.

I just learned that a good friend of mine, John, has been diagnosed with a tumor on his tongue. The extent will not be known until further testing and surgery. Please pray for John and his family. Pray for containment and complete removal of the tumor…..for complete and total healing….and, most importantly, for God’s peace to cover John and his family.

The adult daughter of my very good friend (who many of us know) has been diagnosed with a hole in her heart. She is scheduled for surgery December 8th. Please pray for her and her family during this difficult time……..may God restore her health and His peace to them.

Update on Mo…..

I just spoke to Mo and he sounds great. He had a heart catheter procedure yesterday to correct the “flutter” he had been experiencing. Other than a long wait before and after…. some rather cold “ice pads”…..a little “burning”…..etc, the procedure went well. He was home by about 7:30pm, and the procedure seems to have accomplished its intent. As always, Mo has some rather humorous stories about the day. Be sure to ask him about it.

News from Mo (Francine)…. “I will be going to Emory Midtown this Thursday (Sep 29) for a heart procedure to correct a ‘flutter’ problem. Will need to wear the monitor again for a couple of weeks after that. If all goes well I can go home the same day…..but anytime they enter the heart through the groin……oh well….what am I complaining about?“
